Function membership includes 100+ comprehensive lab tests to measure your current health status, organ function, metabolism, and risk factors for disease. As science continues to evolve, Function strives to integrate the latest advancements in testing, offering cutting-edge add-ons to provide you with the most in-depth insights into your overall health. *Advanced add-on tests may be available for an additional cost beyond your full membership. See the full list of tests here.
Traditional healthcare typically requires a specific symptom or condition before approving comprehensive testing. Function flips that model—because waiting for a problem to show up before testing for it doesn’t make sense.
Getting these 100+ tests through your doctor would mean:
Finding a doctor willing to order them all.
Hoping insurance covers them (which it likely won’t).
Facing surprise bills for advanced tests.
Not getting the time or depth needed to fully understand your results.
Function makes it simple—whole-body testing, clear insights, no hidden costs.
Most labs set high prices because insurance negotiates them down—but if insurance doesn’t cover the test, you’re left paying the full amount. That’s why lab tests can cost thousands out-of-pocket.
With Function, there’s no middleman. The 100+ tests included in a membership could cost over $15,000 elsewhere, but we’ve made them accessible—because your health shouldn’t come with a surprise bill.
These add-ons provide insights beyond the comprehensive set of lab tests for all of our members. They provide insights into more specific root causes or risk factors that depend on each member’s unique health history and goals. *Advanced add-on tests may be available for an additional cost beyond your full membership. See the full list of tests here.
Some add-ons require testing multiple biomarkers in order to provide a deeper, more comprehensive look into a particular aspect of your health. Individual tests for these add-ons are not available at this time, but we’re working on ways to give you more flexibility in the future.
As a member, you can view all add-on test costs during the checkout flow before scheduling your Annual, Follow Up, or Anytime visit.
Currently, these add-ons tests are not available in NY or NJ. However, there are thousands of Quest Diagnostics testing locations across the US and you can choose where you’d like to get tested.
You can purchase add-on tests when scheduling your Annual, Follow Up, or Anytime visits. See the full list of tests here.
-Extended Heart & Metabolic Health testing provides a deeper understanding of cardiovascular and metabolic health by evaluating cholesterol function, blood sugar regulation, and oxidative stress, offering advanced insights into heart and metabolic health risks. These tests are ideal for those at risk of heart disease, diabetes, or metabolic syndrome, or those with preexisting conditions and imbalanced markers such as elevated inflammation (e.g., hs-CRP), poor glycemic control, abnormal lipids, heavy metal exposure, or thyroid hormone imbalances, as identified through Function membership.
-Extended Heavy Metals testing further helps identify heavy metal exposure and guide detoxification, specifically for arsenic and aluminum. These tests are ideal for suspected heavy metal exposure, unexplained neurological or kidney issues, or ongoing risk due to environmental or occupational exposure.
-Extended Thyroid Health testing helps detect subtle abnormalities or early signs of dysfunction, even when routine tests appear normal. These tests are ideal for persistent symptoms, a family history of thyroid or autoimmune conditions, unexplained health concerns, or monitoring treatment for Graves’ disease.
-Extended Immune Regulation testing helps evaluate susceptibility to infections, detect potential immunodeficiency disorders, and identify autoimmune conditions, providing essential insights for maintaining immune system balance and overall health. These tests are ideal for individuals with increased susceptibility to infections, unexplained hypersensitivity reactions, or chronic inflammation.
-Extended Vitamins, Minerals, & Nutrients testing evaluates key nutrient levels to ensure your body has the resources to support vital functions like energy production, antioxidant defense, immune health, thyroid function, and DNA synthesis. These tests are ideal for those with dietary restrictions, known nutrient deficiencies, chronic fatigue, or a desire to optimize nutrition.
-Extended Hormone Health testing offers deeper insights into metabolic health, growth factors, and the hormones that influence physical performance and recovery. These tests are ideal for women managing conditions like PCOS, irregular menstrual cycles, or metabolic concerns, and for men addressing metabolic concerns, low testosterone, muscle loss, or reduced libido.*Advanced add-on tests may be available for an additional cost beyond your full membership. See the full list of tests here.
Yes—your body is constantly adapting. Diet, sleep, stress, exercise, and environment all impact your biomarkers. Regular testing helps you track these changes over time, so you can see what’s shifting and take action to improve your health.
A team of licensed clinicians across multiple specialties—including Function’s co-founder and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Mark Hyman—curated these tests based on the latest scientific research. The focus? Root cause medicine, early disease detection, and long-term health impact.
Every test is chosen to deliver actionable insights, giving you the data you need to take charge of your health before problems arise.
At the core of Function’s testing approach is to treat the body as a network of interconnected biological systems, rather than focusing on symptoms. Function offers a range of testing for women, including a comprehensive look at hormones, metabolic markers, heart health, thyroid function, and nutrient levels. *Advanced add-on tests may be available for an additional cost beyond your full membership. See the full list of tests here.
Function includes lab tests that measure the primary fertility hormones in women and men. These are critical for those trying to conceive. See the list here. You will need to work with your doctor to discuss your fertility based on your results. Note that if you are on hormonal birth control, some fertility markers are not tested, given birth control's propensity to greatly skew results. If you have a regular period, you will need to get tested on day 3 of your cycle for the most optimal result. Beyond the obvious tests directly related to fertility, other tests that are part of your Function membership can impact decisions around conceiving, including heavy metal toxicities. *Advanced add-on tests may be available for an additional cost beyond your full membership. See the full list of tests here.
Function memberships include a complete set of biomarkers related to fertility, and many more that can directly impact fertility. However, you will need to work with your doctor to determine your fertility based on your results. Note, if you are on hormonal birth control, some fertility markers are not tested, as birth control is likely to greatly skew results. See the full list of tests here.

Heart disease is the leading cause of American deaths. That's why Function delves deeply into your cardiac health. Most heart attack sufferers have cholesterol levels that would not indicate a high risk for a cardiovascular event, based on current national cholesterol guidelines. Your membership includes the traditional lipid panel but goes much further with advanced tests like Lipoprotein (a), Apolipoprotein B, and Lipoprotein Particle Size. Most cardiologists today agree that traditional lipid panels are an incomplete way to monitor cardiac health. *Advanced add-on tests may be available for an additional cost beyond your full membership. Some tests may be unfamiliar, as they represent the leading edge of medicine, yet to be widely adopted by traditional primary care clinicians.
No, Function does not diagnose at this time. Although the lab tests included with your Function membership are the same as those trusted by the broader medical community, and a clinician is reviewing your lab test results, diagnoses are not yet available through Function.
On rare occasions, lab tests can have errors. This is true for any diagnostic test. If results are abnormal because you forgot to fast or didn’t hydrate properly, this does not necessarily mean they are erroneous. Instead, it likely reflects a value outside of your normal range due to the circumstances. Abnormalities are just one reason why Function members establish a baseline. By going beyond a single snapshot and identifying trends, you can better understand the story of your body for a healthier future.
All tests are processed in CLIA and CAP certified labs, which are widely trusted by the medical community. Your blood and urine samples are collected by licensed medical technicians on-site and processed with state-of-the-art equipment. This is the safest and most accurate way to be tested, given the advanced processing needs for the wide range of tests available through Function.
